Thank you. I felt one was needed.

I'm wondering how long it's going to be before Charles Clarke says ``This could have been prevented by ID cards'' - probably sometime tomorrow afternoon, I'd guess. And when he does, he's going to have to properly answer the question ``How? No, really, exactly how?''

I'm hoping that his inability to come up with anything more concrete than ``Well, it'll show them that Britain isn't a soft touch...'' will do the scheme a sizeable amount of damage. Possibly I'm being naively hopeful, though.

A gov't spokesman on the TV this morning said "ID cards would not have helped". I 'm trying to find out who that was...

He'll be out in the next reshuffle...

OK, I'm actually shocked and flbbergasted: Charles C himself says that ID Cards would NOT have stopped yesterday's attacks.
